Eye Injury Surgery Fellowship Opportunity
Retina Specialists of
Alabama, LLC (RSA). is a progressive and busy subspecialty ophthalmology
practice with three surgical and one medical retinal ophthalmologists,
all of whom participate in the retinal surgical and medical diagnostic
fellowship training program. The 2 year medical/surgical fellowship
is accredited by the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB).
Virtually all modern modalities of vitreoretinal treatment and surgery
are utilized by RSA physicians including investigational modalities
within controlled studies, for our large private practice population,
as well as for area indigent clinic patients.
The fellowship is customized
to meet the individual skills and interests of each fellow in patient
care and research. The Fellow is recognized as a physician who has
excelled throughout previous training. The fellow's goal is, to
make patient care at RSA better than it would be in his or her absence,
by continual vigilance, compassion, and dedication. The fellowship is coordinated
with the Helen Keller
Foundation for Research and Education, an organization which,
along with the United States
Eye Injury Registry,(a research project of the American Society of Ocular Trauma), offers extensive opportunities in basic
and clinical research. Retina Specialists of Alabama physicians
hold faculty appointments in the UAB Department of Ophthalmology and provide clinical/surgical
instruction to Ophthalmology Residency program physicians at the
Callahan Eye Foundation Hospital. Fellows regularly participate in
this training of resident physicians.

Alabama participates in the American Academy of Ophthalmology San
Francisco Fellowship Match Program.
